Welcome to LMS Wakefield

2014 League News

With the sun now starting to shine its probably time to talk cricket. We have new teams entering leagues this season, the introduction of midweek LMS cricket and the 2015 World Champs to plan its going to be a busy year.

Our third year at Pledwick C.C looks set to be our best yet. The lads have worked tirelessly over the winter to get the ground ready for the season. They secured a grant to double the size of their clubhouse and the undersoil drainage has made a huge impact on the outfield. A 10ft high net now surrounds the bottom edge off the outfield and give us the possibility of play a whole game without losing a ball!

With 8 teams entering the league this season we have managed to double our intake of 2012. The league is scheduled to start on Sunday 11th May with KO 1200 approx. NCD Separation Solutions Ltd have come on board as our primary league sponsor this year alongside existing match ball sponsor Harratts. A captains meeting is arranged for 28th April @ 7:30pm at Fox and Hounds Pub to complete introductions, address outstanding administration points and cover the rules for all involved. We are pleased to announce that our old white balls have been thrown away and replaced with high quality Pink balls courtesy of a deal with the ECB.

Confirmed teams (so far) for 2014 include:

  • ·         Pledwick Pirates
  • ·         Fox and Hounds
  • ·         Royal Challengers Hundhill Hall (Reigning Champions)
  • ·         Stick of Rhubarb
  • ·         Yorkshire Puddings (2012 World Champs Quarter Finalists)
  • ·         Maroon Army
  • ·         Hit Out or Get Out
  • ·         AJ Sports

We have plans to expend the league further in 2015 with the addition of a second tier to include promotion and relegation between the Premier League  and Championship. We are actively looking for additional venues to host our ever expanding fixture list alongside reliable people to umpire games across the Wakefield district. In addition to this we are making arrangement to commence midweek cricket at a host of venues for interested teams, new starters and established teams.

Johnny Hodge Cup

Preparations are underway for our annual Johnny Hodge Memorial Cup tournament to be played at Mirfield Cricket Club over the August Bank holiday 2014. The tournament is now entering its third year and has been hugely successful in raising funds for the local branch of the Leukaemia and lymphoma Society. It is proposed that three teams will play a round robin tournament. This format may change to include a greater number of teams however at present the Yorkshire Puddings, Mirfield Cricket Club and a South African select 8 will play off for the title.

Road to Barbados

We are pleased to announce that the world famous Yorkshire Puddings will be returning to LMS cricket this year as they prepare for the LMS World Champs in Barbados in 2015. The Puddings featured in the 2012 World Champs in Cape Town, South Africa where they made it all the way to the Quarter Finals before being eliminated by the 2011 World Champions Mephobia. The team unfortunately missed out on the opportunity to play in London in 2013 however have already been in talks for 2015. The Puddings will be getting together over the next few weeks to discuss sponsorship, team selection, kit and travel arrangements. The core of the side toured in 2012 however a number of key additions have been included to bolster the squad. More info to follow so watch this space…
