Celebrating another LMS Legend – Greg Axon (Player ID 109647) is an Aussie legend who has played 360 games, 297 of which are for his beloved “YesNoWait”, and 46 for the highly regarded “3 Short”, both hailing from the overpowered Canberra region.
Today we look under the bonnet of this Legend to see what makes him tick!
BATTING – RUNS GALORE!
I will just populate the raw data here as it simply speaks for itself (slaying since 2013):
* Games – 360
* Inn – 358 (bats in 99.4% of games!)
* Not outs – 156 (not out in 43.6% of innings)
* Runs – 13,026 runs @ 64.5 runs per dismissal
* Balls faced – 6,998, or 1,399.3 overs, scoring at 186.1 runs per 100 balls (9.31 runs per over!)
* 50s – 159, or 1 every 2.3 inn!
* 100s – 2 (twice as niceeee)
Comment: What is crazy is that if Greg bats 20 times he scores 9 x 50s whilst scoring at 9.3 runs an over (5 ball overs). In those 20 innings, 9 of those innings will also be not out. This is tremendous.
KEEPING – LOVES A STUMPING!
Greg has donned the gloves in 248 innings (68.9% of games), and in that time he has:
* 166 catches (0.67 per inn)
* 64 stumpings (0.26 per inn)
* 230 dismissals (0.93 per inn)
Comment: So if he dons the gloves 20 times he jags 18 dismissals in addition to his ridiculous batting.
BOWLING – BECAUSE OF COURSE HE BOWLS!
Greg has rolled the arm over 145 times, or in 40% of his games. It will come as little surprise that his figures are as follows:
* Overs – 286.0
* Wickets – 84
* Average – 25.1 runs per wicket
* Econ – 7.38 runs per over
* SR – 17.0 balls per wicket
Comment: Whilst this is obviously his least preferred discipline, he has still snared his poles at a tick over 25 (a fine figure), whilst going for under the big olde 7.5 runs per over marker, whilst jagging a pole every 17 rocks.
STATISTICAL SUMMARY
Let us pull it all together into a nice, neat set:
* Bat: 13,026 runs @ 64.5 – SR 186.1 [9.31], 159 x 50s, 2 x 100s
* Gloves: 230 dismissals (166 cat + 64 st) @ 0.93 diss/inn
* Ball: 84 wkts @ 25.1 – Econ 7.38, SR 17.0, 4 x 3wi
Comment: Greg, it has been my absolute pleasure to pay tribute to your amazing longevity and quality as an LMS cricketer (and now Legend), and look forward to sharing a beer with you once the borders sort themselves out, however I have absolutely ZERO interest in playing against you in an LMS match…
Ever.
Congrats LEGEND.
