LMS World Cup Kenya 2024 - LMS Australia Team Line Up

We are excited to announce the line up for the Australia team that is traveling to Kenya as part of the LMS World Cup starting next week! The team boasts big tournament experience with Captain Sam Lang and Ziad Abbas both part of the side that reached the final of the inaugural #LMSWorldCup tournament in England in 2018!

The LMS World Cup starts at Kenya's national cricket ground - Nairobi Gymkhana - on Monday 24th June, running through to finals' day on Saturday 29th June. Nairobi Gymkhana is a famous venue having hosted numerous internationals, including the  Champions Trophy events in the past, so we are excited to have access to this iconic ground throughout the #tournament!

The Australian team features a wealth of big-hitting experience including several official competition 'LMS Legends':

Sam Lang (c) - Lang returns to skipper the LMS Australian team once again. The team captain provides multiple all round options for the team, having amassed nearly 20,000 #runs at an average of 47 (strike rate 222), over 650 #wickets while offering an excellent second wicket-keeping option for the team with close to 100 dismissals behind the stumps.

Ziad Abbas - Returning for his second appearance in Australian colours having been part of the LMS Australian that reached the final in 2018, Abbas is one of the most recognisable and feared players in #LastManStands. Few players globally match Abbas for his power hitting, and with almost 10,000 runs at an average of 49 and over 300 wickets he is a proven match winner on the big occasion.

Danny Batra - An official Australian Over-40s representative, Batra oozes all round class on and off the pitch. His staggering stats feature over 15000 LMS runs and 210 fifties at an average over 100 (better than Bradman). Batra also offers a varied bowling option, having snared over 260 LMS scalps at an average of 20. Batra will likely be the #batsman that the rest of the team build the innings around.

Nick Murphy - The phenomenal left arm swing bowling ability of Murphy was clear for all the world to see at the #LMSMasters (Over 40s) World Cup in Barbados earlier this year, where he unbelievably snared two hattricks (including a double hattrick) in successive games. 'Nitro' has taken almost 300 LMS wickets at an average of 17 and a stunning economy of just 17! To boot, Murphy also boasts a batting average over 50, so his performances will be crucial to the Australians' success in the tournament.

Brad McGrath - A player with a vast amount of experience, McGrath has the destructive power and range of shots to turn any LMS game in a few overs. The big Sydneysider (via New Zealand originally) is one of Australia's most decorated players and his 15700 LMS runs have come at an average of 58 and a stunning strike rate of 212. In the #bowling department, McGrath's swing bowling has brought him well over 400 wickets and an economy of 6.5.

Michael Hawkins - Consistently one of the top order batsmen at the Australia Champs each year. In a 12 year LMS career, 'Hawko' has amassed almost 15000 runs at an incredible batting average of 95 at a strike rate of 187, with no fewer than 188 fifties and 5 centuries. Hawkins is also an exceptional wicket keeper with 200 LMS dismissals to his name.

Gus Sloan - Despite being the youngest player in the side, Sloan can already match most of the all time LMS greats and is one of several official 'LMS Legends' in the Australia side. A batting average of 65 (strike rate 193) is matched by over 300 wickets at an average of 22. Sloan's all round abilities will be crucial to the team's success, and he is a proven champion across numerous LMS title-winning sides.

Rhys Longbottom - Longbottom provides another all round option to the side, and further variation in the bowling department. A member of one of LMS Sydney's most successful sides, the Spider Monkeys, Rhys has a tight bowling economy rate of 5.7 and a measly bowling average of 20, while his left handed attacking batting style will provide balance to the Australia team's line up. Rhys is also of proud indigenous descent, having first played in LMS through the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence's LMS program a decade ago.

Trent Thomson - The team's manager, who will fill in for any Australian player injured in the tournament, would normally be the first pick in any LMS side. The classy left-hander, continues the fine production line of talented cricketers from the rural town of Taree in regional NSW. One of the most popular players in LMS,'Thommo' is a real people's person who has scored nearly 8000 LMS runs at an average of over 66.

Make sure you don't miss a minute of the action with all games being live streamed throughout the week - Good luck Australia!
