SAM LANG – LMS Legend

Well, here it is. Player ID 97661, Mr. Samuel (Aussie Skip) Lang, LMS Australia captain, run machine and bowler of wicket-taking meds and some dobbly offies!

I first heard of Lang at the annual Aus Champs, where he was lighting it up for his favoured 3 Short lads from the LMS Canberra league.

He was smacking them everywhere and taking poles, but when I had a chat to him, he was very humble about his feats: what the hell?

Then, in 2018, Sam came to live in sunny QLD, and he happened to split his time between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane, and he played many games, scored many runs, and made many mates along the way (and continues to do so to this very day).

Sam is an excellent ambassador for LMS and plays an attacking yet fair brand of LMS that few can mirror.

Now, let us celebrate the rich statistics of this absolute LMS Legend.

BATTING – ABSOLUTELY SMOKIN’ IT!

Sam likes to float in the order in the Brisbane Premier League, and always looks to score rapidly.

He was instrumental in LMS Australia reaching the final of the World Series in 2019, scoring 169 runs @ 56.3 (SR 140) and shepherding home several run chases as captain. Note well, him and the boys were playing against International cricketers like Ajantha Mendis and Shiv Chanderpaul.

* Games – 615

* Innings – 566 (bats in 92% of games)

* Runs – 16,684

* Not outs – 244 (1 every 2.5 inn)

* Average – 51.8

* Balls faced – 7,045 (or 1,409 LMS overs!)

* SR – 237 runs per 100 balls (scores at 11.9 an over in 5 ball overs)

* 50s – 153 (1 every 3.7 inn)

* 100s – 6 (top score 115* off 39)

Comment: These numbers are obviously ridiculous. To expand upon that though, consider this: Sam has played at the very highest level of LMS, and plays in boutique and top-end tournaments frequently and year-round. He has been playing LMS for 10 years and has over 16K runs. And even with all these amazing numbers and data, it is the fact that he scores at an average of almost 12 an over amidst all this that is my favourite stat of his.

It is like he is playing Shane Warne Cricket 99 out there

BOWLING – OH NO WAY!

Another ridiculous part about Sam’s abilities as a player is the fact he is a dead-even all-rounder (a big shout when you consider his incredible batting numbers).

Here, I will show you:

* Innings – 577 (bowls in 94% of games)

* Overs – 1,742.2 (or 8,712 balls)

* Wickets – 535

* Average – 20.4 runs per wicket

* Econ – 6.25 runs per over

* SR – 16.3 balls per wicket

* 5-fas & 3-fas – 1 x 5-fa, 38 x 3-fas (best bowling 5/18 off 4.0)

Comment: Going for a mean old 6.25 an over given all the cricket he has played (and the levels he has played it at) is just cruel for the opposing batsmen, and his average hovers at around 19-20.

KEEPING

* 75 catches

* 16 stumpings

Comment: Sneaking up on 100 dismissals with the gloves (91), because why not?

STATISTICAL SUMMARY

All together now:

* Games: 615

* Bat: 16,684 runs @ 51.8 – SR 237 [11.9], 6 x 100s, 153 x 50s

* Ball: 535 wkts @ 20.4 – Econ 6.25, SR 16.3, 1 x 5wi, 38 x 3wi

* Gloves: 75 catches + 16 stumpings

Comment: The +31.4 run gap between bat and ball is ridiculous, especially when combined with his ludicrous scoring rate with blade in hand (11.9 runs an over) and how mean he is with ball in hand (6.25 runs an over).

Absolutely sensational Sam, just keep on trucking mate.
